Deer as Keystone Herbivores in the Chicago Metropolitan Area
Technical: Land Management and RestorationDr. Clayton K. Nielsen and Rachael E. Urbanek
Cooperative Wildlife Research Lab, Southern Illinois University
White-tailed deer are an important wildlife species occupying urban ecosystems of eastern and midwestern North America. In this presentation, we will describe a comprehensive effort to understand deer ecology and management and human attitudes at the ecosystem scale. We predict this approach will benefit entities already facing deer issues and will inform future decision-making as human populations expand in the Chicago metropolitan area.
