Habitat Restoration in an Altered Landscape: Looking Beyond Invasive Species
General: Land Management and RestorationDebbie Maurer, Restoration Ecologist
Lake County Forest Preserve District
Habitat restoration often includes the removal of invasive plants; however, the circumstances that facilitate the spread of an invader is not always known or understood. Impacts of historic landuse, altered hydrologic regimes, and supression of fire have all played significant roles in the degredation of our Lake Michigan coastal communities. This case study will present the opportunities and limitations for restoration of these communities.
