Wild Things 2009: Conference Sessions
Saturday, February 7, 2009
University of Illinois at Chicago
Session: D6
Ecology and Conservation of Migrant Landbirds of the Chicago area
Birds/Bird ConservationDoug Stotz
Nearly all of Chicago's avifauna is migratory, with less than half breeding in the Chicago area. Conserving our migratory birds requires understanding how and when they use habitats in the Chicago area, but also understanding what is happening to them when they are not in Chicago. I will discuss the impact of global warming, tropical deforestation, restoration and habitat protection on the migratory landbirds of Chicago and make recommendations on where to focus our attention to protect this important element of Chicagoland nature.
