Panel Discussion: Making conservation inclusive and affordable
Backyards/NeighborhoodsJessica Caņas, Naomi Davis, Michael Howard, Dr. Sylvia Hood Washington
This expert panel will discuss making conservation more attractive and more accessible to minorities and low income communities. It will highlight successful programs and cover questions such as how to attract more minorities to conservation as a profession and how to increase minority/low income visitors to natural areas, and to activities such as volunteer stewardship or bird-watching. Other questions concern the barriers to participation in public and home conservation and the programs that can help. Projects discussed include community gardens, rain gardens and nature centers on Chicago's south and southeast sides.
