Wild Things 2009:
Call for Presentations and Nominations
Saturday, February 7, 2009
University of Illinois at Chicago
The third biennial Wild Things conference is coming this winter — a great gathering of the inspiring souls who live and breathe Chicago nature.
This day-long conference brings together the region's best experts, hardest working professionals, most dedicated volunteers and anyone interested in nature. Technical presentations and interactive workshops will explore the latest in natural areas conservation, wildlife protection and monitoring. The conference is organized in "tracks" designed for everyone from beginners to experts. There is special focus on empowering citizen scientists, stewards and advocates with information, networking and good ideas.
Wild Things will feature more than 70 large and small-group sessions drawn from real-life experiences with everything from the nitty gritty of habitat management, botany, and zoology to advocacy, culture, history and backyard and neighborhood ecology. It’s a great opportunity to listen, ask questions, and contribute to the effort to conserve our natural ecosystems and habitats.
We invite you to join us in making this another excellent day — by doing a presentation yourself or by recommending someone in our community who has accomplishments we’d like to hear about.
If you have something interesting to present, or can pull together a panel on a topic of interest, please respond to our call for presentations and nominations.
Can you think of someone in our community who has shown inspiring leadership and who we can learn something important from? Perhaps a good way of attracting volunteers, or a technique to make restoration or monitoring more effective? This doesn’t have to be a 40-minute presentation; sessions can be divided among two to four people. Or have you heard a great speaker that we all could benefit from? Send us ideas via our call for presentations and nominations.
