Chicago Wilderness and Audubon work together with citizen scientists and other organizations to monitor birds in the Chicago Region:
- The BCN Survey: an ongoing survey of birds in our region's natural areas, designed to give specific information to land managers
- The Important Bird Areas (IBA) program:an international effort to identify, conserve, and monitor a network of sites that provide essential habitat for bird populations
- The Migrant Bird Habitat Study: a study conducted in April and May of 2001, 2002, and 2003 to identify tree species that are used more often than others by foraging migrant birds in spring
- Declining & Imperiled Birds: a 2007 analyses by National Audubon Society of the state of birds in the Chicago Region
- The Chicago Wilderness Grassland Bird Blitz: the 2003 and 2004 study of more than 120 grassland birds throughout the Chicago Wilderness region
- The Chicago Wilderness Shrubland Bird Blitz: the 2008 study shrubland birds throughout the Chicago Wilderness region
